We all know that Twitter is a great way to connect with friends and network with people in our industry. It can also be useful in promoting our business if done right. But one thing we often overlook is how social media can help us in our day-to-day lives as a parent and household-money-saving diva. Below are just a few ways you can use Twitter to save money on your everyday purchases.
Subscribe to your favorite brand or store + the word “discount” or “coupon”.
Here are a few examples. You can click the link and bookmark the page, subscribe to the search via an RSS, or “Save this search” so you can view the Tweets as they come out:
Limit Your Search to Just Your Favorite Brand’s Profile
Sometimes there is just too much noise in the above searches coming from the Online coupon websites and affiliate bloggers. In those cases, your best bet is to go straight to the source. For instance, you could subscribe to JUST tweets with the word “coupon” or “deal” in it from JUST your favorite brand. A few examples:
You can create your own easily. The above searches on Google all use the following format:
site:twitter.com inure:BRAND/status/ KEYWORD
Just replace “brand” and “keyword” with your choice. Brand would be the profile name on Twitter of your favorite brand, and keyword would be something like “deal” or “coupon” or “special”. Now you can use Google Alerts to subscribe to those searches!
Embrace the Affiliate Sites
I don’t really care if someone gets a 5% commission off my purchase just so long as I get a good deal. So I often subscribe to the Twitter profiles for coupon and deal sites. Here are a few good ones to get you started:
